I bought some powder hounds, 4" carbide
I really like them, they turn like im on skates on packed snow or ice, i was even amazed at how well they turned on ashphalt more recently....
They give very good floatation in our deeper snow. They've held up to some rock abuse quite well i think.
One thing i really like is how flexy they are. When i hit something they basically just fold in half. When i remove the skidoo from the object the ski always look just like it did before. My precisions always showed creases where the ski folded.
I love my slydogs, I have 11,000 miles on them and although wore they are still in OK shape.
I wanted to let all at SlyDog know that you have far surpassed my expectations. I took a gamble this year switching skis. I have been a long time Flexi-ski customer and this year I decided I wanted something different, something that floats better, something that looks awesome and more importantly overall functionality. I ordered a set of Urban Camo Black/white/grey powderhounds for my 900 Dragon, yes I said 900 Dragon. Not only do your skis help my heavy hog float like a dream, they don't dart, and they look amazing on the sled. My wife and I along with my Mother and Father attended West Yellowstone Snow Expo and had a chance to talk with the SlyDog rep. Overall an incredible guy, super knowledgeable and very helpful. I expressed a concern about how far my skis dipped when the front of my sled was off the ground and he quickly made things right. He explained to me that the original rubber ski stop was not correct and that it was slightly off, sooo he gave me the right set and away I went. At the show he had some key chain thermometers. Unfortunately I only grabbed one and later that trip I broke it. I would greatly appreciate if someone could send me a few of those, however many would be great as they are nice to have on the keys for the sleds as well as zipper pulls on backpacks and jackets. I am from Sheridan Wyoming and I'm sure that some one there can get SlyDog skis, but I have established an incredible working relationship with Woodside Motorsports in Hailey ID and they are who I purchased my skis from. Brian and Brandon who work there have worked hard at every demand I have given them. I had pink flames put on my wife's Polaris and now she wants pink and black slydog powderhound skis. I will be working with Brandon at Woodside in order to get this accomplished. Attached are a couple of pictures, one of my 900 Dragon with my Slydog's on it and another of my wife's sled to try and get an idea if we can pull off some pink skis. I apologize for the lengthy email I hope to see a response if someone has time. The SlyDog powderhound skis are by far the best performing ski on the market. Thank you very much.
I've got an 06 Summit X 800HO 151 that I bought with 650 miles on it.
The guy that snow checked this sled had taken off the 6.9 Pilots and put the SLP/SLT skis on as soon as he got it. The SLT ski (5+inches wide) turned great and the steering was effortless, but they darted really bad on the trail.
I rode it for 1/2 a season and said to heck with this, and put a brand new set of 6.9 Pilots with both sets of carbides. The sled was way better on the trail but the steering was way heavy compared to the SLT skis, and the Pilots seemed to push bad in the turns.
I then bought a nice used pair of Simmons from a fellow Snowester. The Simmons in my opinion where better than the 6.9 Pilots, on the trail and off trail, but the steering effort was still more than my liking, and they still pushed some through the corners. The Simmons also were alot more flexable ski compared to the Pilots, which I liked. So my search continued, up untill this point I was ready to settle on the Simmons but not 100% happy.
I then purchased a very nice used pair of Slydog Powder Hounds (7 inches wide) from a guy on Ebay. I have found for me that the Slydogs are the best ski for my Rev. The steering effort is comfortable for me, they have a nice flex, they float great in the powder and they turn where I point the bars. Over all I am very happy with the Slydogs. I think for me, I just perfer a more flexable single keel ski.
Ive had my slydogs bend completely on top of themselves a couple times. They come right back and DEFINETELY float better than the stockers. I agree, however, that the stockers arent too shabby, but tend to push and sink a bit more for sure. Good skis for personal preference are a very worthwhile upgrade in my opinion.
Couple things that are simple to do to SlyDogs to make them a bit more aggressive. I just put these on mine this afternoon. Bergstrom Skegs 3/8"
thick ski savers (width of the keel and get sandwiched between ski and bar) and StudBoy Shaper bars with 6" of carbide. The Studboys for C&A's have the same bolt pattern. In the least do the ski savers it will also save the keels from wear.
I went from PowderPros to PowderHounds and found a lot better flotation wih the Hounds and nice steering. Also was able to hold a side hill like I'd been wishing I could for many years.
I would recomend anyone looking for aftermarket skis to buy a set of these.I put them on my 07 Gade and i cant believe the difference. Sharp on trails,no darting, great in the powder. Awesome skis SLYDOG .
Once again I have to give you praises. Just got back from another trip and am just so impressed on the quality and feel of your skis. Got a lot of looks too!!
Only thing with the iqs is that some people(especially with the fusion) experience hard cornering and the sled turning like a tank. But see the forums here on HCS for people diagnosing this problem. I thought mine could be better and simply installed a set of Slydog Trail skis and they dress up the sled as well as make the sled corner much better!
